Our top priorities: scientific research and innovation.
Science has proven that a regular prevention programme and an active lifestyle are primary factors associated with good health and help reduce the risk of conditions such as cancer as well as cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
The treatments and services offered at the Lucia Magnani Health Clinic undergo prior evaluation by medical professionals and are only included in the programme by Lucia Magnani if they are supported by scientific evidence. This concerns all nutritional plans, specialist visits and treatments provided by the clinic, as well as the products and cosmetics used.
At the Lucia Magnani Health Clinic, scientific research focuses on the following areas:
As for anti-ageing research, the “Lucia Magnani laboratory” has been established to test new cosmetics and antioxidant-rich food supplements which are able to fight oxidative stress.
The research conducted in the field of thermal medicine has produced two major studies. The first one, led by the University of Ferrara, examined the effectiveness of rehabilitation treatments aimed at the recovery of the joint motion of the spine in males suffering from ankylosing spondylitis;these were performed in thermal water and combined with the intake of biological anti-inflammatory drugs. The second study, led by the University of Pisa, demonstrated that, when applied on 50-60% of the body at a temperature of 50°C, the salsobromoiodic Castrocaro mud stimulates an increase of the so-called heat shock proteins (HSPs70); this effect lasts up to 30-35 days after the treatment. Such proteins are involved in biochemical mechanisms that strengthen the body's resistance to stress ischemia and oxidative stress. This study also indicated an improvement of the pathological indices of arthrosis, such as pain, joint function as well as physical and mental well-being. During the mud therapy performed at the Castrocaro spa, the thermal stimulus produces the same effects as an exercise within an intensive physical activity routine.
