The Lucia Magnani Health Clinic is located in a region that is rich in thermal waters and clays with unique properties; in particular, they are renowned for their therapeutic, draining, peeling and sebum-regulating effects. Their formation dates back to over six million years ago, when the Paleo-Adriatic Sea stretched inland for forty kilometres from today’s coastline, covering our area as well.
THE MAGIC OF OUR WATERS
The green salsobromoiodic and sulphur waters of Castrocaro contain active ingredients that are particularly suitable for the treatment and prevention of arthro-rheumatic, respiratory, vascular, gynaecological, gastroenterological and dermatological diseases.
The recipe for the success and effectiveness of our treatments includes a thorough knowledge and familiarity with the curative properties of thermal waters, constant technological innovation as well as the professionalism and expertise of our doctors and operators, combined with the centuries-old tradition of the Castrocaro Thermal Baths and the medical know-how of GVM Care&Research.
THE PROPERTIES OF OUR WATERS
Sulphur water It is characterised by a high content of hydrogen sulphide, which has a local anti-inflammatory and anti-catarrhal action on the skin and the mucous membranes and a broader regenerative and boosting action on the immune system. When used in inhalation therapies, it can prevent rhinitis, rhinopharyngitis, relapsing laryngitis and chronic bronchitis. Sulphurous gas alone is used to treat middle ear diseases such as rhinogenic deafness. When applied to the skin, it helps relieve symptoms of acne and eczema and remove minor skin blemishes, particularly in patients with oily skin.
Salsobromoiodic water It is extremely rich in iodine and bromine salts and has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and cleansing effects on the skin and mucous membranes, especially in case of chronic inflammations. It also combats water retention caused by venous and lymphatic stagnation thanks to its anti-edemigenous and vasoactive properties, reduces fibrous retractions and restores the elasticity of periarticular tissues and scars. When used for baths, it can treat joint disorders caused by arthrosis and is also suitable for motor rehabilitation after traumas to the locomotor system as well as for the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency of the lower limbs (swollen legs, varicose veins, etc.).
THE CASTROCARO “VELVETY” MUD
The fine local clays, defined by Leonardo da Vinci as “azzurrigno terren di mare”, have an extraordinary absorbing capacity and can retain large quantities of water, producing a “velvety” and mineral-rich compound which is left to cure for six to nine months before being used. At the end of this process, the so-called “velvet mud” reaches a degree of plasticity which makes it adhere perfectly to the body surface to be treated and thus guarantees optimum results.
Mud therapy with salsobromoiodic water harnesses the high content of sodium chloride and the therapeutic properties of iodine and bromine to stimulate the production of specific proteins which slow down the progressive damage caused by the ageing of our body tissues. Our local clay is also mixed with sulphur water to treat various skin conditions; this mineral water has a strong and distinctive smell that is due to the high content of hydrogen sulphide (H2S), a volatile gas which represents its most important active ingredient.
